Born in Gjakova in 1912, he was left an orphan at the age of 5, without his father Myrteza Shkreli and together with his brothers Iliaz and Hazër, they had to survive with their work and sweat. Thus, as a child, Uncle Islami worked as a shepherd in the Godens family of Rogova e Hasit, and with the relocation of the family from Gjakova to Prizren, in the early 30s, he joined the Smani family who had a kebab shop in the neighborhood of Terzimahalla, where he takes the first steps of grilling food.
